Pull Out All The Stops 2015

I worked in collaboration with two architects to conceptualise, design, fabricate and install an HLF funded interactive multimedia exhibition celebrating the three year refurbishment of the Royal Festival Hall (RFH) Pipe Organ. Its purpose was to enthuse the public about the design, making, history and use of the vast pipe organ and to tell its controversial story in a way that would be of equal interest to specialists and those with no previous knowledge and be suitable for all ages.

Having previously worked together as a team we successfully pitched in competition against four other design practices and subsequently assembled a larger team including makers and installers, a graphic designer and a scenic backdrop painter in order to realise the exhibition. 

We were all deeply involved in the process and worked very closely with an extended team from the Southbank Centre (SBC), which included the RFH Organ Scholar, curator, project managers and heritage specialists.

To counter what might have been an overly dry emphasis on pipe organs we brought as part of our pitch for the project a parallel interest in the world of the pipe organ as a popular instrument. We introduced SBC to the Museum of Mechanical Music in Cotton, Suffolk (a place we love) who in turn contributed some of the most beautiful and well received content in the exhibition, culminating in a special weekend at the Southbank dedicated to the Museum’s wider family of pipe organ enthusiasts bringing their treasured instruments to be played on the banks of the Thames.

Emily Wardill 2007

Workshop in preparation for viewing a film by Emily Wardill. The group were encouraged to extend their bodies into sculptures based on images of work by John Bock.

Enrico David 2007 

An Engage funded project designed to explore ways of developing sustainable relationships between the Gallery and local Schools.

Teachers and gallery staff were given an envelope and asked to create a response to the exhibition using only the materials inside.

Show Me 2008

Show Me brought together service users and support workers from Westminster Learning Disability Partnership (WLDP) to explore a series of art themes through creative workshops. Funded by Westminster Council the project was designed to establish a relationship between Institute for Contemprary Art (ICA) and WLDP, encouraging independent visits and specially designed resources.
